I have been occupied with life too much to update recently, but here is a quick list of highlights:
1. We got a new black leather couch with dual recliners. Now Joel and I don't have to fight over the recliner. It's stylin.
2. Tomorrow I am presenting for the second time my lesson on Blessing Your Husband. I've tweaked the lesson a little but it's basically the same from last year. I will try to repost it for my blog-friends to read.
3. Started with a new practice today to try and fix my neck. I'll let you know if it's successful.
4. I don't think I will have time to post tomorrow, but my weight this week has been steady at 160-161. Guess I need to start exercising again.
5. The kids are asleep in bed and I have work to do. Catch you later!

Today during nap time we went to the doctor for a well check.
Denali is 25 pounds and 36 inches tall. He's doing great and of course meeting all the milestones. Oh and he continues to follow Emlyn's height and weight almost exactly. I'm so proud of him and Emlyn too.
I totally asked the doctor if she was expecting. She is not. She just weighs more than she used to. Now I feel like a cad because it's not like I've never had weight issues.
I hope she doesn't hate me now.
Anyway I'm going to try to post some pictures.

I'm not sure if this is legal.
I'm going to post a joke from my favorite comedian and then tell you who he is.
"Hiking is just a walk in the woods where it's okay to pee. Sometimes old people hike by accident."
That's from Demetri Martin. His website is
His stuff is funny, original, and clean.

Yesterday morning I woke up all better, and this morning the kids woke up without fever. Hallelujah! That means tomorrow we will be able to do normal things again, like preschool and Ladies Bible Class.
Yesterday I was able to clean up the downstairs. It was pretty bad from us all having the plague.
This morning I tackled my kitchen. I took pictures of it but blogger is being mean. At any rate I cleaned it all up, including the floor, in 40 minutes. That was with Emlyn helping me sweep and mop.
I got a tip from mommy life about sweeping. If you want to teach your kids how to sweep, make a chalk circle on the floor (3 ft in diameter or so) and ask them to sweep everything into that circle. That helps them have a focus and a goal and is more measurable. Emmy did it and it worked pretty well.
I've found a new friend on blogspot. Give her a visit. Her name is Mary Ellen and she writes a really encouraging blog.
Anyway I need to go play with the kids for a few minutes before leaving the house for a little bit.

As a teenage girl, I would have loved to have a peek inside a guy's mind to find out what clothing and attitudes really were a stumbling block to him.
The modesty survey does just that. Girls submitted questions about modesty and tons of guys anonymously answered those questions. The results are here.
It will help me think more about the clothes that I wear, even as an adult.
Check it out.
Yesterday I felt fabulous. I helped Joel with the fence and played outside, and then in the evening went on 6 errands without the kids. It was great!
This morning I woke up and discovered that my stomach bug is not gone yet. It was just hiding. Grr.
This has got to be the sickest winter we've ever had. Emmy now has the bug, and Denali is still not over it. Looks like we are not going to church today even though they're announcing the new shepherds.
On a lighter note, some pictures.
Our honeysuckle got a haircut the other day. It was so overgrown for the space that there wasn't anywhere for new growth to go.
This is the fabric of my new apron. Isn't it so beautiful?

Emmy's Valentine shirt
I am feeling much better. I ended up going to the doctor this morning and he prescribed me some meds. Then Joel took off work early and helped so much with the kids! It was great. So great.
I took some pictures the other day and thought I'd share the love.
Well I am still sick with a tummy virus. I'm not sure how long one of these is supposed to last but I am "sick" of it. Ha ha.
I've lost 3 pounds since Wednesday, since nothing is being digested, so that's good I guess.
I wish I could loan out my kids (one of whom is slightly sick also) so that I could be sick in peace. Good joke I know.

Well this week has been very stressful and busy. Yesterday I ran around and did about eight errands. Today I woke up with a stomach virus so I basically sat around and watched TV all day.
I lost 2 pounds this week, dropping down to 163. Pounds lost: 32. Pounds to goal: 3.
You all have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Mairi has been an outdoor cat for a couple of years. Here's a link to when I previously posted about her.
Anyway she uses every chance she can get to come into the garage. This is even encouraged by us when it's freezing outside.
Problem is she's ruining our stuff, peeing in socket sets, climbing into Joel's car, etc.
We have committed to take care of her for her life. We believe that's what you do when you take on a pet. But she's also really starting to get on our nerves. I know that's not a PC thing to say, but it's true.
So there you have it. One beautiful friendly annoying psycho cat up for adoption. Any takers?
PS- We are not really going to give her away to a pound or anything, but if we could find a good home for her we'd be willing to do that.
I had to wait for a day when I washed my hair (no I don't wash my hair every day) and had some time. This morning qualified. I cut 10 inches off. Well, the hairstylist did anyway.
I spent the morning with Denali at home because he threw up during the night. We were watching old videos. I have come to some conclusions:
1. 9 years ago I was miserable at giving speeches.
2. The (un-edited) video of a mission trip is only marginally interesting to those who went and probably not at all interesting to those who did not go.
3. I was skinny when I was younger but not mature (of course). I think I like the way I look now better, although I'm looking forward to being skinny AND mature.
The other day Emlyn was playing with duplos and came up with this:

Well it's finally over. I spent almost two days working on this thing, getting everything ready.
We sold more than half our stuff. We had five families in on the deal. Kudos to Beth and Heather who worked their tails off helping sell, and to Mike for watching 6 kids almost all morning.
We sold the bedroom furniture that had been in Emmy's room and some other miscellaneous stuff, totaling about $110. The jogging stroller is still up for sale but Beth sold the same one for $60 to a lady willing to drive for an hour, so I have faith that I will sell this one.
There's a load of stuff on my porch if you want to come dig through it. Take what you want for free.
UPDATE: There is no more stuff on my porch and I got a cool $60 for the jogging stroller. Life is less cluttered today.
I know I still haven't posted a picture of my hair. Sorry.

letting the kids go wild babysitting and thought I'd make some yard sale signs. They are so beautiful! And yes, I have each one labeled on the back with the intersection they will be posted at.
The other one is a piece of florescent light covering that used to be in our light in the kitchen. It will go on the windshield of our car so people can see in spite of the rose bushes.

This week I continued to make fairly good choices as far as food was concerned. On the weekend I ate something that made my stomach upset all weekend long. Not really sure what it was–could be too much guacamole, or that something funny was in the guacamole, or something else that I ate at a restaurant. I don't know.
Anyway, lost 3 more pounds, bringing me down to 165. 30 lost in all, 5 more to go. Pretty good.

Emmy is having problems keeping her room clean. I know, I know, what child doesn't have problems in that area? But it's frustrating for me because I strongly feel that children need to sleep in an uncluttered area.
We are slowly trying to transition all the toys upstairs to the kids' bedrooms, so this problem will only potentially get worse rather than better as time goes on.
Today I was talking with a friend and had an epiphany.
I think there is too much furniture in her room.
She has a fairly normal sized bedroom with low ceilings. In this room are:
day bed with trundle underneath
*two low dressers with removable shelving on top
* These are all part of a set that was Joel's when he was young
After thinking about it, I realized that this is just too much! None of the shelves are even close to full, and neither are the drawers. In fact I would like to move all her clothes into the closet.
I think we may be moving some furniture out of there...
I'm having a garage sale this Saturday if anyone wants to sell some stuff or drop by. Let me know.
I cut my hair on Saturday. I really do love long hair but I just needed a little change. I'll post a picture when I have one.
It's shorter than I've ever had it. But I think I like it. I went with my sister Grace who is a little more alternative than I am. She currently has very blond hair with red on the underside, nape of the neck. When I told the hairstylist she was my sister, the stylist responded with "then why don't you do something fun with your hair like hers, since you stay home?" I had no answer to that. I just don't like to dye my hair. It's already a great color and I'm just not that adventurous. Plus it's so hard to go back from dying your hair to regular, at least that's what I hear. So my hair is still the same color as always.

Why is it that the adhesive bandage manufacturers always put in so many itty-bitty ones, like the circle ones to cover zits and the small rectangles?
I have 39 of the little rectangles and 26 of the zit circles right now left over from assorted packages.

So I signed up for an organic home delivery service for fruits and vegetables. I chose the "local box," which only has things from local farms. I'm excited to see what I can cook this week. It arrived just now and I took everything out and looked at it. It's very exciting.
There are a couple of things that I need identified though. Can you help me out?
Here's what I got for $35:
a little box of arugula lettuce
a bunch of parsley
2 kinds of greens (kale and ?)?
2 heads of broccoli
about 6 tomatos
3 sweet potatos
3 beets? The tops look like chard but the bottoms are round...
a bag of radishes
An empty chocolate wrapper (oh- who could have eaten the chocolate immediately? How strange!)
a bumper sticker (I LOVE bumper stickers)
a bin to trade back and forth
Anyway it will be exciting to see what I can cook with this stuff.
Could you please tell me what these plants are?
