Silly Things

This first paper is one Denali did in Sunday School a few months ago. I guess it was for Mother's Day.

And these are the very detailed instructions for Joel's dad when he took care of the kids one day. Can you guess who wrote these instructions? I can tell you, it wasn't a mamma.

I wanted to share these things from my family.

Swim Lessons are DONE!

Mental note for next year:
Schedule swim lessons in early August, rather than late. Schedule them early in the day. Thank you very much.

Well we are finally done with swim lessons. If I might brag a bit I would say that both of the kids passed with flying colors.

It was so neat to see them both learn in their different ways. Emlyn was so mature this year, her second round of lessons. She would analyze the task set to her (swim to the teacher, etc) and with a determined set to her shoulders she would do what she was asked to the best of her abilities. It was so different from last year. I could tell she was really trying and learning and using her brain every minute. Her body cooperated too, and she really improved. She was the most improved swimmer in her class.

Denali, on the other hand, was experiencing his first lessons (they each had 8 lessons; Emlyn's were 45 min and Denali's were 30). He was a joy to watch because everything he did, he did with a smile on his face. He grinned the whole time and really had a lot of gumption. He couldn't quite get his arms and legs to do really efficient movements but by the end of the time he was swimming on his own.

Both of them passed on to the next level with flying colors, getting great scores on everything and both ended up being able to "swim" independently. They each jumped off of the "diving" board. I have pictures which I am not uploading tonight, but I am just so proud of them.

I also made a new friend, B. I'm hoping that she and I will be lasting friends. Her son was in lessons with Emlyn.

First Day of School

Emmy starts first grade today. She will have the same teacher that I student-taught with when I was pregnant with her. Mrs. D is a great teacher and I am excited for her, and I already know Mrs. D, so I know we will get along just fine.

Emmy will be wearing the new skirt I made her, which is just like the one I made for myself.

You all have a lovely Tuesday.

Rest Day

We have been running around like chickens the last few weeks, so even though there are things that could be done out of our house, today we are staying in. Except for swim lessons of course.

We will:
patch hole in closet
move pile of siding
have bath time
ride bikes play in the rain
do some gardening

I hope the kids have a good day.

Well Hello!

We got a lovely rainstorm this morning. It made me so happy. Now the air is humid and fresh and I almost want to go outside.

My house is very clean today and I am almost caught up with laundry. I think today is going to be a good day.

Props to Alyson

I just want to say publicly that I don't know how Alyson did the retreat organization all herself the last few years. I am in the midst of registering and accepting payments from 146 people, and it is SO HARD. I'm not doing anything but that, and that is enough.

So, GOOD JOB ALYSON.

And thanks Alyson for taking the rest of the planning back. I literally could not do more than this.

Hecticness

Life has been crazy around here.

Swim lessons 4x a week.

Broken toilet.

Clogged a/c drain line resulting in flooded hallway.

Olympics taking up all our free time.

Women's retreat fast approaching.

School starting in less than two weeks.

Summer doctor appointments.

And that's including all the normal things I am supposed to be doing, such as laundry, dishes, cooking, childcare, cleaning, filing, and my SAHM support ministry.

The only way I've been able to catch my breath is by reading the Psalms from this beautiful edition and by looking at pretty pictures on Joel's Flickr stream.

I didn't realize how much I missed other kinds of trees until I saw these beautiful birches in Colorado. They are so distinctive and pretty.

Loveliness All Around

This weekend has been great so far.

On Friday I got to see lots of friends at playgroup, and then at 1pm I dropped the kids off with my sister's fiance "Zebra." I then proceeded to do lots of errands and got all of them done. Then I had a quiet evening at home with Joel.

This morning I woke up and took a bike ride, and then I called Grace to see when I should pick up the kids. Grace said "1:30pm" so I immediately knew I could do a project. I pulled out my fabric and decided to make a tie dye skirt.

With Amy as design consultant, and Ruth Ann as sewing machine provider, I completed a beautiful skirt today for myself and started on a matching one for Emlyn. It is very flowy and twirly. And beautiful. Did I mention I like this skirt?

I am wearing it to church tomorrow.

Wichita Mountains Visitor Center

They had a really cool mural at the visitor center. It was 3D. And that's me in the middle.

Buffalo/Bison

The visitor center coincidentally had lots of buffalo right by it in the morning. I think they put feed outside the windows so all us tourists can see them up close.

Can you see the face?

We didn't climb this one but there is a climb where you follow the flake around the left and then up.

Here's my love mapping out our next climb at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.

Here's an artsy shot I took at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. The rock formations were beautiful. I wish we could have spent more time climbing there.

Pike's Peak

Here we are at the top of Pike's Peak. What you can't tell is that I have a blasting headache and don't feel very good. You also can't tell from this picture that we're 14400 feet up in the sky.

Now THAT'S a Kiss

This is the sweet couple who got married in Colorado. The ones with the bouncy castle at their reception.

Aww. Everyone say it with me. Awwwwww.

What?

Seriously. What does this sign even mean? Why would someone torture me by making a sign that says everything and nothing all at once?

Whateverdude.

Events

My foot is all better. After babying it for two days I played Dance Dance Revolution at a party and it's been golden ever since.

I have not gone crazy like I usually do after a trip. Maybe this time I will have broken the cycle.

Edouard may give us some rain. I cleaned the yard, porch, garage, and gutters in anticipation.

Emlyn is taking her second set of swimming lessons and is doing really well. I'm very proud of her.

Denali is all potty trained! My Mother-in-law did it while we were on vacation. She's awesome.

You Wanna Hear Something Funny?

I sprained my ankle while sleeping.

Sprain:
1.to overstrain or wrench (the ligaments of an ankle, wrist, or other joint) so as to injure without fracture or dislocation.

I have been going to sleep on my back with my left knee turned out and my left foot near my right knee. It's comfortable.

Except evidently if you stay in that position for hours on end. I woke up barely able to walk and have been in pain all day.

How's that for stupid?
