Putting Our Faith in Action

Yesterday our church had it's annual Faith in Action day, where we cancel church service and members are involved in various activities that give to our community and share our faith. This year some of the events were: planting a victory community garden, free garage sale, baby shower for unwed moms, blood drive, financial seminar, park cleanup, and much more.

Joel and I decided to help with donating items to the free garage sale and then we spent the rest of the day over at the victory garden. We were building beds and planting plants, digging and hauling, weeding and spreading leaves between the beds. We are sharing a garden bed with a nice lady- our plot is about 4 by 12 feet. We planted about 15 tomato plants, 12 pepper plants, 10 watermelon plants, and a rosemary. Then we put in 5 blackberry bushes and 3 more rosemary bushes along the edge of the walkway. It's going to be so fun to see all the plants grow.

It was really amazing how the phrase "many hands make light work" is so true. There were about 40 of us out there working on the garden, and it was so fun to visit and get to know people and share our tools, knowledge, and plants. I look forward to spending time in our church garden with others. Now I just have to figure out how to water a garden twice a week that is 20 miles from my house. :)

The nice thing about all those people being invested in the garden is that hopefully, you will not have to water it twice a week as long as several people are willing to water it once a month or something like that. That's how it should work at least, isn't it? Yea, but I am bad at delegating.
