Esther and 2 Timothy

This week I am teaching the book of Esther to ladies class here in Austin. I am using the same lesson I used at the women's retreat I went to earlier this year. It seemed to go over really well. Esther has two main points- one is that God WILL save his people. He might use a really small and insignificant person, but he will save.

The second point is that God may be trying to use you in your life. Be ready for such a time as this.

If you have a chance this week read through Esther. It's just 9 chapters and it is a very quick read. Be looking for the ways that God works amazingly.

In the Spring I will be teaching 2 Timothy in a couple of venues. I plan to have it memorized by April. It's just four chapters so you would think that I could get it done by then. 2 Timothy has an amazing tribute from Paul to his adopted son Timothy. They were not biologically related but Paul loved Timothy. Paul encourages Timothy in many ways and reminds all of us to be careful to read the Word and to not be distracted by things that our earthly bodies really like.

Have a lovely day!

Denali wears a toga

My four year old son has a really bad rash on his nether regions. Since he can't wear dresses I thought of a way to help him air his rash comfortably and modestly. I took a soft crib blanket, put the middle of the long side at the middle of his back, wrapped both ends under his arms, crossed the ends in the front and took a hair band to keep the ends closed at the back of his neck. To make it a "boy" idea I called it a Veggietales (the blanket was Veggietales) toga. He happily wore it for an hour, until it was time to change into real clothes.

What do I give my child to read?

I've posted more reviews on my blog. I've also posted a list of my favorite authors of chapter books that you may not have already found for your children. Feel free to share with others.

Here's the list of authors.

Here is a kids' book about adventuresome mice

I do read adult books occasionally- here's a murder mystery.

Here's another fairy story
which just happens to be the theme of my daughter's costume she's wearing today for her school's storybook costume contest.

And lastly we have another giveaway for parents of boys. Check it out!

In other news, my kids picked up some random mite infestation while we were last hiking and I've had to do about 2000 loads of laundry. Ask me how fun THAT is. :)

You all take care!

Briana wins, and Emmy reads

Briana won the book "Generation Warriors" off of the giveaway on my book review blog. Congrats, Briana!

Emmy read a long, long book called "Ginger Pye" over the last two weeks. She finally finished it last night and took an AR test on it today (a comprehension testing program). She got 100%! We are super proud of her. She earned a lot of points on a book that is at a 6th grade reading level.

Today I spent hours in the office catching up on paperwork. I've made significant progress but there is still lots to go.

Will be reviewing more books soon and another giveaway will be coming up.
